ABC News’ Philadelphia Democratic Debate

Add me to the list of bloggers extremely disappointed with ABC’s performance in the Democratic debate in Philadelphia last night. The New York Times Politics blog “The Caucus” wrote this morning a summary of the reactions to the debate making their ways around the blogosphere. It was absolutely tabloid journalism: trashy, without substance, gossipy. Whether I ever held Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos in high standing, I expected better from them. They will remain high school dramatists in my mind, as mere actors or writers–who cares. It was a shame that a major television network couldn’t manage the creativity to engage the nation with its potential future leader(s). Instead it just clipped columns from every other newspaper around and fed the candidates crap we already know. Who gives a shit whether Obama wears a US flag pin? Put him in a three-piece flag suit and tell them to shut up. Pure inanity. Things like this have me really scared for a country that would elect Bush to a second term. Someone should put the voters up to a debate about their track-record for decision-making and see who looks better then. Now I’m really getting myself fired up…
